5 Unforgettable Social Media Content Creation Tips
Have you ever felt like you’re running around in circles trying to market your business on social media?
You’re not alone.
Far too often, I’ve seen side hustlers, early-stage entrepreneurs, and even seasoned business owners make the fatal mistake of posting daily yet random content. It leaves me, as a follower and potential client feeling like…WTF?
And that’s not a good feeling. If nothing else, your social media content should support you in building your brand awareness so that followers will believe in the power of your work. After all, that’s how you make connections and begin developing trust.
If you want to move your content creation process from struggling to find ideas to planning and producing the best content for your brand and its audience, this post is a great starting point. I’m sharing with you five ideas that are going to guide you in understanding the greatness within your business–and you.
What’s Your Value?
Before you can do anything successfully, you must be able to define your business and its importance.
For example: there are tons of cleaning services. But are you a cleaning service that focuses on the mental health of your clients? Do you guide them into understanding how to keep their homes or workspaces clean without you present?
Or, how about this: there are tons of business coaches. We all share a variety of ideas and approaches to meet the needs of our target audience.
As a content coach and strategist, I come to the table as an educator and a journalist. Therefore, I’m always thinking what do my clients need to know? How will they best absorb the information?
When I work with clients I support them in making intentional decisions that will lead them to create compelling content. It’s a balance similar to putting your kid on a bike–first, there are training wheels, then holding the bike as they learn to balance without training wheels, and then, letting a client ride off into the sunset.
Always remember: the service is what you do. The value of your business is in who you are as an entrepreneur and how you service your clients.
2. What’s Your Purpose?
If you’ve been in business for more than five minutes, you know that there needs to be a reason for every decision you make.
Content creation is no different.
With no purpose, you’re just randomly posting, hoping ideas stick with the following you want to build.
Your purpose or intention (that’s my favorite word!) for creating content is to:
Educate
Entertain
Inform
Use your social media and email list to share stories of your successes and challenges as well as your insight on how to best support your target audience.
Intention creates awareness so that you can gain trust. Carve out time in your schedule to craft content that will show you’re thinking about your clients’ needs.
3. Be Consistent With Your Purpose
The idea that consistent content is enough is problematic. Instead, I want you to get fixated on remaining consistently purposeful.
Random posts that have no connection, that aren’t showing your value and personality, that aren’t sharing stories, that aren’t helping your audience to grow, are a waste of time. They add no value to your brand and will tell your audience that you have no value!
Purposeful content adds context to your audience’s lives and will allow them to realize your commitment to not only your business but also your dedication to them.
4. Publish Unique Content That Shows Your Personality
Why do people use social media? They want to learn and become more informed. And they want it to happen in an engaging fashion.
This means…no one wants a list of your services as a static post. They want to know the benefits of using your service, one post at a time and they want different types of posts–a carousel, a reel, a static, live. You name it–it’s up to you. Just bring your A-Game.
Your audience is being bombarded with content every second of their day. Publishing exciting content is one more way that you can differentiate yourself from the crowd.
So make it refreshing. Make them feel that they won’t get what you’ve got anywhere else. This too, is how you build trust.
5. Engage Your Audience
Newsflash: posting is never enough. Let your followers know that you’re not just here for the main character energy. Show them that you’re a supporting character by:
Making valuable comments on their posts. No emoji comments are allowed unless of course, they ask for one!
Contribute to ongoing discussions in Facebook and LinkedIn groups.
Start conversations and tag people that you’d like to contribute. This is a small act with big results as you are willing to share the spotlight and build other brands.
Just remember to keep your brand’s value in mind–don’t get into arguments that will tarnish your personal or professional image.
